You're certain they didn't put soy sauce or spices that might have flour in
the dishes?
{I did not taste any, and they did have the sauces in smaller containers, and I stayed away from them!}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd agree it was the rice. Maybe it was coated with something. Some of the rice I have checked out have had a barley coating.
First, I always eat sticky rice with no problems.  Make sure no soy sauce was
used. Also, I have had this happen to me ---I can only blame myself----was the
cooking pans washed out good enough???  Then again, maybe it wasn't the food
at all -it was just a day your stomach was not in a happy camper mood -and
everything made it upset. I have had this happen to me, for example -I would
eat safe plain chicken breast and get sick for no reason. I would eat them later
same way etc and be find. So, when there is no rhyme nor reason to get sick -
I just chalk it up to my stomach was not in a happy camper mood. I deal with
the upset -drink Mylanta /Maylox or take some Zantac etc... and move on.
There will be some days you can't figure out what cause the uspet -so don't
drive yourself insane -just move on......
Before my husband was diagnosed with CD, I am pretty sure that, when baking,
I would dip my measuring cup into flour, and then again into the sugar
container without cleaning it.  I really had no reason not to do that.  I
used to do it with measuring spoons and spices, too.  If I measured a
tablespoon or more of flour, I would dip right into my spice jar afterwards.
  Again, it was never a problem.
There are always risks like these when eating at someone else's house.  If I
know them well, I ask/explain about the sugar and spices (and other sources
of flour contamination that I can think of).  If I don't know them well, Jim
just takes his chances, or he doesn't eat there.
{It can be the little things that make the biggest difference! Who would have thought! Thanks for the insight!}
I know it really is a drag to have to live like this, but it seems to keep me from getting sick. And I try to think of it this way -- it's our medicine. What we eat or don't is about a medical necessity. So we have to be utterly serious about it, no matter whose feelings may get hurt. After all, who would get offended about having to take an insulin shot or bandage a wound or take pills for heart disease while in their house? This is really the same thing and that analogy may help people understand.
{good point!}
    It's going to take more like a year for your intestines to recover, even
if you stay GF.  Secondly, that's a lot of fiber, and that much cauliflower,
broccoli, and fresh fruit would have set me off even after 4 years GF.
A flu-like virus is possible but the real "flu" doesn't involve throwing up, it's a respiratory thing with fever and aches.
Kitchen contamination is another possibility.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You would have to ask the cook about ALL the ingredients to really know.
They may tell you it's just rice, but neglect to tell you about the soy
sauce or coconut milk it was cooked in. It could also be a food allergy.
I am allergic to coconut, so I have to be careful with Thai food, even
though I love it. Then there's the possible food poisoning or stomach
virus

I have a bag of White Sticky Rice here in the house and it says under the ingredients Wheat based products.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 I wouldn't worry about getting food into
yourself but keep hydrated with fluids.  I only had one bad attack like you
since I was diagnosed last September.  I was so scared but it only last for
two days.  Try to get a lot of rest the next day or so.  As far as what you
ate I think you are right about the rice everything else sounds fine.  Try
not to get too discouraged and think this is going to happen all the time.
That's how I felt and I haven't had another attack since that one about 2
months ago.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

With the temp and aching it does sound like the flu.  I think I would have rather have had the flu than a celiac attack.{No doubt!!!! I agree!}
