I hope not to be too bright-eyed about potential
technological advances, but there is some interesting
things going on in this area. In the past there has
always been difficulties making judgements on health
status because we only have the bones to work from,
which is great for some illnesses, like arthritis or
bad teeth or a clobbered skull, but Parkinson's or
Alzheimer's is I'm pretty sure impossible to find. . .
Except that now, I've heard that it may be possible to
use DNA analysis to find out much more about what
happened to an individual who died a long long time
ago.
There is research into this area, though, called
"paleopathology." There are some sources in papers by
Loren Cordain that can be downloaded, though the
sources themselves are not available online.
