Hi List-
Just curious what meds & therapies those of you have used that have
refractory sprue? My son's GI is thinking now that he has RS, seeing as
after being on only medical food- his 2nd biopsy continued to show villous
atrophy, lymphocytosis, and crypt hyperplasia. He's been GF for 9 months w/
no improvment of ANY symptoms. We've tested him for and ruled out everything
else that it could possibly be (just SOME are crohn's, IBD,
hypogammaglobulanemia, etc...). SO- he's been on prednisone (which is the
best he's ever felt), many acid reducers (prevacid), and is currently on
azulfidine (anti-inflammatory for the intestine). He's been on that for 2
weeks w/ no improvement.
Those of you who have struggled w/ this-- what meds have you had success
with? I need some good info to take to his GI.
BTW: We are sure he is not getting contamination, and we've ruled out all
other food allergies as well. We are just desperate to get him healed up and
pain-free.
Thanks for your help,
Richelle in UT
