Here are some things I would try, were it me:

1. I would first thoroughly read the manual that hopefully accompanied the
PSC.

2. I would check HP's site to determine if the new PSC is compatible with
Win98se.

3. If it is, I would peruse their site for a driver for your new PSC that is
compatible with Win98se.

4. Failing that I would look into the support forums at HP to determine if
others have a similar problem and how they are dealing with it. I would also
check out Google Groups to see if they might have a group.

5. I would search Google to see if there was an answer using a query such as
"install problems,hp psc,win98se" or something to that effect.

6. Consider an upgrade of the operating system only after everything else
has failed. I would recommend WinXP Pro. I have used Win2K and like it but
prefer the XP. You're likely to get mixed reviews of the OS based upon user
preferences.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Regards

Vince

Subject: [PCBUILD] Windows...Re-Install or Upgrade ??

The Computer Lady told me that this is one of THE places to go to get help
from hundreds of professionals so I am here to see what y'all suggest I do:

I use Windows 98SE.

My PC is only 1 year old (it came with no operating system so I used 98SE
since it was what I had on my old system).

I have a brand new HP PSC Photosmart All-In-One Printer, Fax, Scanner,
Copier.

I hooked it up and everything except the Scanner works fine.

After talking to HP for 5.25 hours trying to resolve the problem - they
finally determined that I need to re-install Windows 98SE or upgrade to a
newer version of Windows (something about my drivers being corrupt ? funny,
they weren't corrupt with my old PSC ?? - anyway).
