Hi,
I had already tried what you suggested with the floppy just before I
received this, as I was going on the same assumption as yourself, that the
flash update would create a bootable disk, as I have noticed that the update
is an EXE. file. I thought I would try it anyway, but nothing happens at all
exept a message telling me that I have an invalid start up disk, replace the
disk and press enter.
I think I probably have to download a flash utility to go with this bios
update, but I can't find one on the fujitsu-siemens site.
I've looked on the net also for bios flashing instructions, as Mike Scott
suggested, but I became worried again when I read the words: "Think very
carefully before attempting to flash a Phoenix or IBM bios."
I can't seem to find any information at all about bios flashing on the
manufacturers site, and I'm very, very wary of asking them directly now, as
just about everything they suggested via email last time round was wrong.
I've got the floppy with the update ready to add the flash utility if and
when I find it.
The system actually runs without the update, but, I'm sure it's running alot
slower than it should. Obviously, I want to get this bios flashed as soon as
is possible.
I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong, and maybe this update would be
all that's needed.
I'm sure I've set everything right to be able to flash it.
Can anyone recommend a site with 'idiot' instructions?
This is a Phoenix bios.
If my very first attempt at flashing had been more successful, I'm sure I
wouldn't be so worried now.
Thanks in advance.
Michele Sayer

> If you have the mobo's flash update program it is nearly impossible to
screw up unless you have a power failure during the flash. Presumably you
created a floppy using the downloaded flash update program. If so, it's
just like trying to start your computer using a startup disk. The flash
program usually creates a bootable disk with the flash program added. It's
just a matter of following the instructions and pressing enter when asked to
do so. Turn your computer off, load the floppy in your A:\ drive and crank
'er up. Follow on screen instructions.
