The book "The Journey of Man; A Genetic Odyssey" by Spencer Wells adopts the
same hypothesis and tracks the Y chromosomes of existing populations in
Southern India and all the way to Australia to provide strong proof for the
theory.  Wells speculates that the journey was made incredibly quickly -
perhaps in 1000 years and the genetic and archeological evidence supports
this.  He argues that the migrants had dark skin when they left and the
resemblance of Australians and Africans (and small ancestral tribes in
Southern Asia known as Negritos) are explained by the genetic similarities.
