VIRTUAL CONFERENCE ON DELIVERING EDUCATION IN DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES
A virtual conference on Delivering Education in Difficult Circumstances
began today, 8 October, and will run until 22 October 2003. Hosted by the
Commonwealth of Learning and the British Council, this is the second of two
such conferences in the run-up to the 15th Conference of Commonwealth
Education Ministers (15CCEM) that will take place in Edinburgh, UK, from 27
to 30 October 2003.
The virtual conferences are open to all at no cost. The first, on
Eliminating Gender Disparities in Education, attracted more than 200
participants and concludes this week.
The two topics are among six action areas to be discussed at 15CCEM by
ministers, and delegates at the Parallel Symposium. Contributions made
through the virtual conferences will also be fed into the Symposium.
The general approach to the topics is īlocal solutions to local problemsī.
Participants are invited to share their experiences, including problems
they have encountered and solutions they have found, with other virtual
conference participants and, ultimately, with the delegates to the Parallel
Symposium, and ministers.
The second virtual conference will be moderated by Sheena Hanley, a former
Deputy Secretary-General of Education International, a worldwide trade
union organisation of education personnel.
