John,
I'll try to help you on the second part of your problem:
You can't access your home computer from the office.
1. What do you mean by "listed on the home computer"? To check your
computer's IP address, open a command prompt window, and type ipconfig.
2. If your IP address starts with "192.168.0" (not sure of exact definition)
it is a local IP address, belonging to your home network. Then you probably
have a router or NAT gateway, which is the interface to the internet.
3. Have you got a software firewall, e.g. ZoneAlarm, that protects your home
computer from access from the internet?
4. Does your ISP have hardware firewall as part of their service to
subscribers?
