I would disagree on this based on the structure of the eggplant. It
has seeds throughout the meat, not in the centre as with squashes and
melons. Also, and more significantly to me, it has the little crown
of leaves around the stem which it shares with tomatos and peppers.
Cucurbitae do not have this feature.

any real botanists out there?
