I had been doing fine on a paleo-typish way of eating that restricted fat but allowed lots (and I do mean lots) of fruit and vegetables, milk and (plenty of) caffeine. (The reason for the low fat is a tendency to feel liverish after too much fat and consequently to develop IBS symptoms.)
Then I got rebellious and started to allow sugar to creep back in - and some rice.
I did this, partly because I had my blood checked and found that I am blood type A positive - vegetarian according to the book by the bloke whose name I've forgotten and partly because I remember feeling ok on a predominantly vegetarian diet that allowed rice and legumes but excluded wheat and dairy.
Anyway, soy milk followed and so did tofu.
These days I am experiencing a return of the lower right abdomenal pain (LRAP) that used to plague me and a generalised aching sensation in the gut.
Orthodox doctors tell me very little about the LRAP, except that it is probably a follicular ovarian cyst or endometriosis (or both).
Naturopaths opine that it is probably the ileo-caecal valve.
Naturally, I have read the archival posts from this list on blood typing diets, endometriosis, and a bit about ileo caecal problems. But people might have additional thoughts to offer on any of the above. If so, I would love to read them. In particular, any reminders about sugar and its effects on the gut.
In the meantime, I will probably try a strict elimination diet for a few days and see what happens.
Incidentally, I keep reading experts who argue that the Atkins diet only results in fluid loss, not fat loss and only works short-term. Yet I know several people who have managed to maintain a weight loss on average of about 30 pounds for the last couple of years. That's a long time to be thirsty!
