The UW Madison General Library System is seeking applications for a 50%
Project Assistant in the University Archives Section/Records Management
Program.  This position will be available November 1, 2003 through June
30, 2004, with the possibility of renewal.  This position does not
confer tenure nor does it lead to a tenure appointment. Reappointment is
at the discretion of the Director and is subject to satisfactory job
performance and budget considerations.

SALARY:  $27,676 ($13,838 - 50% time)

BENEFITS:  Health insurance, vacation, paid State holidays and sick
leave is covered by the terms of the current Teaching Assistant/Project
Assistant Bargaining Contract.

ELIGIBILITY:  Applicant must be enrolled in or have a valid permit to
register in the UW-Madison Graduate Degree Program.  The successful
candidate must provide the necessary work authorizations, if applicable.

REQUIREMENTS:  Master's or Ph.D. student, preferably in library and
information science, business administration, public administration,
history or related discipline.  Position provides an excellent
opportunity to develop an understanding of some of the most important
aspects of archives and records management activities.  Currently the
program is focused on electronic records initiatives which have an
interdisciplinary focus and will provide the opportunity for involvement
in these initiatives.  The position requires analytical ability, good
written and oral communications skills, good computer skills, especially
working knowledge of Word Perfect/MS Word, Microsoft, Access, Power
Point, Dbase of Paradox, HTML/Dreamweaver and web page design.

DUTIES:  Work with the Campus Records Officer to conduct records
inventory and analysis projects; develop programs and procedures to
manage and catalog electronic records; monitor State Records Center
transfers, inventory updates, and other activities relating to
University use of the State Record Center; respond to office requests
for information on various aspects of record management; maintain the
records retention program database; make additions and changes to
program web site.
