+ 792 cases, including 31 deaths, reported from Guangdong Province cover

as probable cases of SARS.

§Due to differences in the case definitions being used at a national level,
probable cases are reported by all countries except the United States of
America, which is reporting suspect cases under investigation.

occurred in a case medically transferred from Viet Nam.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Report of Suspected Cases Under
Investigation in the United States
*Case definition <http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars/casedefinition.htm>

These data were reported to the World Health Organization on 27 Mar 2003.

State: Suspected cases under investigation*
Alabama: 1
California: 12
Connecticut: 1
Hawaii: 3
Illinois: 1
Kansas: 1
Maine: 2
Massachusetts: 1
Michigan: 2
Missouri: 2
Mississippi: 1
New Jersey: 1
New Mexico: 1
North Carolina: 2
New York: 6
Pennsylvania: 2
Rhode Island: 1
Texas: 3
Utah: 4
Virginia: 3
Wisconsin: 1

Total suspected cases under investigation: 51

[This represents an increase in 6 from 26 Mar 2003. In a press briefing
today, there was mention that 5 cases have occurred in people who had
contact with people who were ill with SARS, and there are 2 health care
workers who are ill as a result of caring for one patient with a suspected
case. This suggests that there has been local transmission within the USA.
