Only if they have cause for fear. Back then probably not as much as today
since there were no guns around. I just watched a show last night in which a
1500 lb grizzly walked by two naturalists without any fear. This took place
in a remote area in the Kamchatka islands in Russia. However, since
poaching, the bears would flee when Russel approached them later on.
