Korea defeats Morocco
17 September 2000
Korea kept its quarterfinal hopes alive with a hard fought 1-0 win over
Morocco at Hindmarsh Stadium.
The Koreans opened their account in the 53rd minute after KIM Do-Hoon was
brought down in the box by centre-back Akram ROUMANI.
Morocco's goalkeeper Tarik ELJARMOUNI saved the resultant penalty, but LEE
Chun-Soo tucked away the rebound.
Attacks swept from end to end during a free-flowing first half when Korea
made full use of its attacking wing backs.
Korea pinned Morocco in its half for a sustained period before the latter
unleashed shots from captain Youssef SAFRI, Otmane ELASSAS and Bouchaib
ELMOUBARKI.
But the best scoring chance of the first half came seconds before the break
when a glancing header from Korea's KIM Sang-Sik was brilliantly saved by
Morocco's goalkeeper ELJARMOUNI.
Morocco attacked relentlessly in the closing stages, but failed to produce
the killer punch.
