Hi, there is a connection between spina bifida, folic acid and gluten
intorance. Probably one of the experts on the list can tell you the
articles. I the book 'what to expect when you are expectibng' talks about
the folic acid link to pregantcy(sp) and spina bifida. As far as telling
this family, I think you have a moral obligation to say something. Since
you may not be a doctor, I think a research article would be the best and
neutral way. This is a very difficult circumstance. My father is a
psychiatrist, he 'knows all about gluten and behavior, etc.' and my mother
is a professor who was premed. They have seven children. Neither parent
sees the importance of having everyone tested. Go figure.
