Seems I may have been hasty in posting my summary. I've received several more responses and I thought it would be good to add those. I've attached my previous email below for reference.
Thanks again to all those who responded!! One note: I've been drinking lots more water a day (like 8-10 waterbottles full) and that seems to be helping a little! :) Or, it could just be that my bladder is constantly full and so I don't notice the other annoying symptoms. haha!

 - I never got hemorroids, but I did get itchy and raw butt (anus). It is very upsetting when this happens and it usually happens when my diet is to acidic. I know of many who have become constipated and in trying remedies, got hemorroids. I couldn't give up coffee, nor do I want to. Now my doctor said that having a cup of coffee a day is good for your electrolytes, so i will never give it up.

- it could be as simple as taking a magnesium glycinate (NOT oxide) tablet each day. magnesium relaxes the bowel. take one with the evening meal. I have read that it may be caused by a vit C deficiency and a need for bioflavonoids...try the magnesium

- I was going to suggest prune juice AND prunes. I bring some dried plums (prunes) covered w/water to a boil, put the lid on the pot, and turn it off. After it is cooled, pour into small bowl an drain off some of the juice to drink in the AM. Refrigerate. Before you drink the juice, heat it slightly in the microwave. (15-20 seconds?). See what that does! Good luck.

- I don't know how many GF breadstuffs (pasta, bread, cookies, etc.) you eat,
but you might try cutting back on that, if the amount is substantial. It
could be causing constipation.

- Just wanted to add that GF flours, besides not being enriched, generally
are very low in fiber, so I agree with the prunes, etc. I try to use brown
rice flour in my homemade foods and that seems to help a bit. After years of
runny stools, my system doesn't know how to handle the change in stool
formation I think. And as for creams, I use one from a natropath that even
helped correct my prolapse (the rectum actually coming out and then back in)
called Spring Wind - a natural chinese remedy that is a pink cream.

- You do need to make sure you have plenty of fluids. I put the orange flavored Metamucil, which is GF in my orange juice. I put a couple of teaspoons in and let it sit a minute, I actually like the taste of it. This combination is good in a smoothie, if you wanted to add some fruit or yogurt. That powdered vanilla so many celiacs like to bake with tastes really good in smoothies and shakes, by the way, if you see it while you are mail ordering GF food... Anything else you can do to get more fiber will help, gnaw on nuts and raisins, baby carrots, fruit...

- I have one more suggestion for you - (and its easy). Drink LOTS of water. My
daughter has had excellent relief from her ongoing problem with constipation
simply by drinking an extra 16 oz bottle of water every day. (in addition to
the first 16 oz bottle plus other liquids consumed with meals)
Hope this helps you too!

- The best thing I have found to take is "Pysllium Husks".
Just a spoonful or two a day in water or in food keeps
my system regular and hemorroid free.

- A little mineral oil each day helps soften the stool, making it easier to pass.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'm just going to do a quick summary
of some of the responses that people sent me.

A quick overview of my post: I have been GF for about 8-9 months now and
have noticed that while I feel great, I have developed terrible hemorroids.
My question is 1) why, 2) what can I do, and 3) has anyone else experienced
this.

****************************
Everyone agreed that they are caused by straining to have a bowel movement.

A few responses were that they were caused by not enough fiber in my diet
and that I should take Medemucil (not sure spelling) or something similar
and exercise more (not a problem as I run several times a week and
snowboard on weekends).

Many people said they are linked to childbirth. Unfor
tunately not
applicable to me. :)

Most everyone said to go back to the dr and have them tell me what my next
steps should be. A few people even mentioned that surgery helped.

A few suggested adding prunes into my diet in the morning to soften the
stool and that might help. (I'm going to try this)

Creams and Ointments were also suggested. I've been using these for months
w/no relief. :(

One person suggested that coffee was a culprit and to give it up. I would
hate for that to be the reason, as a native-Seattleite I doubt I could give
up that addiction easily. :)

Basically, I'm going to make a doctor appointment to see what they say
about it as well. Thanks so much to everyone that responded to me, I really
appreciate it and will definitely try some of the suggestions!

Stacy
