Hello group. I have seen in many resources a warning to check out ice
creams for gluten, because of flavorings and "stabilizers". However, in
seven years of checking out ice creams, i have never found any that
positively contain gluten (with the obvious exceptions of flavors such as
cookie dough or brownie). I am talking about gluten hidden in, for example,
plain vanilla ice cream. I have spoken to companies who say they "can't
guarantee" the ice cream is gf, or "there may be trace amounts", or "we buy
our flavorings from other companies and don't really know what's in
them".....all of which says to me they don't want me to sue them, but there
may not really be any gluten in there.
So, when we are at home, we of course eat ice cream that we know 100% to be
gluten-free, like Edy's or Baskin-Robbins. When we are out, we make every
effort to eat ice cream from places we have checked out and know to be
gluten-free, like Baskin-robbins, Dippin Dots, or Kohr Brothers soft-serv.
But there are times when we pass an unknown ice cream shop and the kids
really want ice cream......hhhmmmm.....and I ask myself: how much risk
could there be?
My question is: does anyone have factual information about actual,
confirmed gluten contained in plain vanilla ice cream? If so, what brands
and how did you find this out?
Please, no flames about even an infintesimal risk being too much :-).
thanks, Lynn
