Hello. This is my summary to my post about Birth Defects and Undiagnosed
Celiac's. I received over 50 e-mails regarding this issue. I am posting
the results of the e-mails I received from people who experienced
problems. I also worked this up in a word document that is much easier
to read. If you would like to receive the word document, please e-mail
me. I have already sent this document to everybody sent me a note. Thank
you for your input. I am convinced from the responses that undiagnosed
Celiac can also affect the unborn child. Any responses or questions are
welcomed.

Lynnette (Wife to Kyle, Mama to Jared 12, Abigail 9, Cecily 6, Anna 4,
Silas 1, Samuel 7/1-7/14/92, Josiah 1/15-1/20/95, and Baby #8 Due in
Aug.)

Summary: Birth Defects and Undiagnosed Celiacs

Mother 1:
        1st son- Club Feet
        2nd son- Ruptured Navel and heart on wrong side
        4th daughter and 5th son- misshapen heads

Mother 2:
        Three stillborn children (two had abnormal bloodwork)

Mother 3:
        Daughter- kidney disorder, lost kidney at 11 (undetected birth defect)
        Son - Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at 16 (may not be related)

Mother 4:
        2nd son- Double Collection System (4 kidneys), 1 ureter blocked,
        Also minor cartilage anomoly on ear.
        3rd son- Apraxia (speech motor disorder)

Mother 5:
        3 miscarriages/3 healthy children

Mother 6:
        Son- Heart Defect/Ventricular Septum defect, Small birth weight

Mother 7:
        2nd child- Heart Defect/Ventricular Septum Defect

Mother 8:
        5 miscarriages/1 daughter died (she didn't say how or when)

Mother 9:
        Son- Diaphragmatic Hernia, Loose Joints

Person 10:
        2 Siblings with tongue-tie. 1 Sibling Congenital Nystagmus, Schizophrenia

Mother 11:
        Son-Died at age 4. He had Myasthenia Gravis, seizures, died of
        cardiomyopathy. Older son- Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Several
        miscarriages.

Person 12:
        Siblings with birth defects

Mother 13:
        7 Children: 2 children with heart defects (Atrial Septal
        Defect) and defects in their liver compliment levels, 1 child with
        hypothyroidism, twin boys and sever other children with loose joints, 2
        daughters with obsessive compulsive disorder, oldest son with aspergers
        disorder (high functioning autism)

Person 14:
        She and brother were born with Cleft lip and palate, brother
        had a hernia at birth plus a host of other problems. She has Celiac/*(so
        maybe her mother is/was an undiagnosed Celiac?)

Mother 15:
        Son born with 2 toes on each foot that were webbed together,
        Ocular Albinism (no pigment in his retina), seizures, Cerebral Palsy
        (possibly from delivery), Died before 3rd birthday.

Mother 16:
        1st baby- Pylectysis:dialated ureter (in utero diagnoses)

Mother 17:
        Several miscarriages, son born with heart defect (one chamber
        smaller than it should have been)-died after surgery 35 years ago. *Her
        daughter also has a son that needed surgery on rotated intestines (she
        might possibly be an undiagnosed Celiac)

Mother 18:
        Daughter- Chromosomal Abnormality: Cleft palate, Club Feet, Heart Defects,
etc.

Person 19:
        Sibling (brother) had cleft palate. Person 19 had one child
        with low birth weight, 2 had long term yellow jaundice, one had a lazy
        eye, one had purpura/nose bleeds.

Mother 20:
        First pregnancy-twins, Boy died of hyaline membrane disease,
        Girl lived 3 months in special care nursery until she died. She had
        spina bifida.

Mother 21:
        3 miscarriages; daughter born 38 years ago with spina bifida.  Son with
        diabetes.

Mother 22:
                Has 5 children, all who have some minor problems: Heart defect (hole),
        developmental delay, learning disabilities, neurological glitches,
        tongue tie, some minor physical things that needed surgical correction,
        asperger's syndrome, OCD traits, processing problems, etc.

Mother 23:
        Son has heart defects (3 vsd's), and bicuspid atrial valve.
        He also has nervousness that may be associated with digestive problems.

Mother 24:
        First Son- Cleft Lip and palate

Mother 25:
        Daughter diagnosed with Celiac when she was 18 months. Daughter went off
        her gluten free diet when she was a teenager. She's never gone back on
        gluten free diet and since has had 6 children: Child #3 was born with
        hypoplastic left heart syndrome and died 24 hours later. Child #4 had a
        growth on her face. Child #5 had testicle hernias where his intestines
        fell into his scrotum and he had surgery at age two weeks to put his gut
        back into the abdomen. He also has many other problems including CD.
        Child #6 didn't have openings into his scrotum for his testicles to
        descend and had to have surgery to make openings.

Mother 26:
        Daughter has a lot of issues and some are still being found at 2 years
        old. She was the only baby that survived a 3 fetus pregnancy. Mother had
        a host of problems during the pregnancy that she believes are due to
        being an undiagnosed Celiac at the time. She had major malnutrition
        problems.


Mother 27:
        Second son-Anencephaly (died at 13 days old), Son-
        Diaphragmatic Hernia (died at 5 days old), 5th /daughter-Tongue Tie,
        Slow Learner, 6th /Daughter, Congenital Heart Defects-single ventricle,
        tapvr, etc., heterotaxy syndrome w/asplenia
