You always have intelligent opinion and comments. How long should a 40G IDE
drive take to format? I had already posted my query for format speed, but
would like your observations.

I'm affraid this is a bad news.  Normally, you only have three
possibilities: HDD itself, the cable or mobo.  So far from what I've seen, I
would direct point to the mobo.  WD has a diag program to download, you
should run it first, the best idea is the run the test from a known good PC
with the suspected cable and HDD.
