Since I've been using NTFS over 2years without any problems, and also built
many many PCs with NTFS formatted, and never see this problem myself.

so My Test on this issue today:

PC spec: 4x ASUS nForce mobo with 80G WD800JB (8M buffer), NTFS file system
(clear formatted at setup, not converted from FAT32), clean installed XP
pro, no problem what so ever.

on my workstation: old Athlon 600 CPU, 20G HDD, NTFS (standard in our
company), win2k. Run chkdsk number of times, no error reported either.
Neither of any other workstations around has found this problem.

More test on the way.
