Theola, I checked that and found out that both, lauric and myristic are
not frequent guests.
I've uploaded the results to http://www.geocities.com/paleolix/lauric.html
http://www.geocities.com/paleolix/myristic.txt
Look at the rightmost column , there you find the value per kcal, wich
is the most interesting.

Basically you find these c12 and 14 oils only in abundance in tropical
fats like palm and coconut. And in butter.

But the (natural) consumers of these tropical fats (south sea...) are
far from suffering a CHD epidemic - in contrast to us westernised
countries, who feast on slaughter fat, milk fat and w-6 fats.

The study sais "the proportions of dietary fatty acids may be more
important than restricting the percentage of total or saturated fat energy,"

I tend to interpret the findings I heard so far in this way:
"the proportions of dietary fatty acids" is very important, we ought to
follow a similar proportion as found in nature. But including all fatty
acids.
That is:

30-40% of saturated fat, 30-40 %of monounsaturated fat,
25-35% of polyunsaturated (EFA) fats but of these at least 1/6 (better
1/4 or 1/2 the omega-3 version).
That's what I learned from analyzing fat data of wild sources, maybe
plant or animal.
trans-FA are forbidden.

Carbs should be at least 500 to 1000 kcal per day (500 kcal is for the
brain).

Of course these carbs must be paleo-carbs (not extracted, with their
natural B-Vitamins and coenzymes). The minimum fat intake (while the
above regime was granted) is determined by the requirement of EFAs (a
few grams of LA and LNA per day). But could easily be increased up to
the point that the minumum *carb* requirements of the brain are still
provided.

Low-Carbing (running the brain on fatty acids) might be a good idea for
weight loss (as some claim) and for insulin control.
The low-carbers may forgive me to see a low-carb regime as not
paleolithic, except for starvation periods.
It's just too unlikely to have happened ever in the last 2 mio years out
of the arctis and I don't see the arctis to constitute any piece to the
hunan gene pool worth to mention (for people out of the arctis).
All that IMHO.

regards

Amadeus
