Lots of people call this a bug in the Award BIOS.
Phoenix (which acquired Award around 1998) does not
list this as a specific bug. (I guess it is a feature, the same
way MS explains things away...) I would like to know if
OTHER BIOS vendors had this "feature" or if it is limited to
Award...

Here are some helpful links to members that want to explore
this topic further...

*The 32GB bug in Award BIOS that prevents many users from
*using HDD larger than 32GB (BIOS hangs at detection) can
*be easily fixed in existing BIOSes.
( http://wims.host.sk/ )
            (Warning: I did not test these... RG)

*# 1. 34 GB bug
*It is caused by divide overflow if the disk size exceeds
* 65535 * 16 * 63 * 512 = 33822351360 bytes = 34 GB.
*The solution is to change default number of heads from
* 16 to 255.

            (This is more or less for people that want to re-write the
            BIOS themselves...  RG)

*32GB Award BIOS bug update BIOS if available
( http://www.plasma-online.de/index.html?content=http%3A//www.plasma-online.de/english/help/almanach/size_limit.html )
            (This last one has one of the most comprehensive lists I've
            seen of hard drive, file systems, and OS limitations...)

Snipped:
BIOS limits are not usually bugs most (particularly the limits at
520MB 2.5GB around 9GB and 33GB are because addressing schemes for
large IDE drives are series of successive kludges on the original
1980s spec. No one expected hard drives to get so large.
