My 10x runs all the time too, at least the light never goes out. The drive
spins at the most inappropriate times but it doesn't hurt anything and the
discs all read fine.
To turn on autoplay go to control panel, device manager, CDROM, ATAPI
CDROM, properties, settings, and check notification. I have an external
cdrom also that runs in DOS compatibility mode because it REQUIRES a
config.sys entry to operate under win95. It will not autoplay data or
music. If your cd is running in dos compatiblity mode you should try
removing any device drivers loaded for it in config.sys and re-booting. If
win95 does not say new hardware found and run the wizard on boot-up, go to
control panel, add new hardware and run the wizard manually, tell win95 to
search, and it should find and install the protected mode driver and set
the cd for autoplay.

Dear Guido,
Thanks. Your instructions were very clear, but my question wasn't.
I was referring to software cd's, not audio.
And please, let no-one tell me to check the Notify box in device
manager. It's already checked.
Thank you.
