A number of years ago I did CR for about a year and a half.
I have been doing the "warrior diet" for a few months now. I do not eat
anything at all before 6 at night. After 6 I fill up on protein, fat and
carbs. I have been only loosely paleo with a lot of "cheats" at night.
In total, my calorie consumption is lower and so is my carb consumption.
I would estimate 2200kCals and 120g of carbs probably.
My observations are that I do not feel highs or lows during the day
anymore. I think this must correlate empirically to blood sugar levels.
I am able to focus all day. I am sometimes a bit hungry but it is not
"real" hunger, in that it disappears when I take my mind off of it.
I am probably in light ketosis during the day. My BG level is probably
low during this time. I don't know how low, but this frequency of eating
feels a lot better for me than anything I have done before, including
pure paleo, Atkins and CR. When I did CR I often felt weak and crummy
and some of my muscle mass wasted away.
But now I am even lifting heavy weights quite well. I think the body
adapts to this frequency of eating and BG levels are more steady this
way and probably on the whole insulin levels are much lower. I can't
prove that, it's just a feeling that I have based upon monitoring how I
feel during the day.
