I have no clue, but I've learned not to take statements about what can
and can't be eaten raw at face value. Yams are easily eaten raw; just
try it. A good way to make them easier to eat in that state is to smash
them to a pulp first, a readily available stone age technique. Peanuts
are also edible raw, btw.
