I was referring to animals in nature, not domesticated dogs and cats that you
put out a bowl of food and water next to each other. I do not think that
wild wolves bring their kill next to a water source and drink while they are
feeding. The example of your dog drinking with his meal is an example of an
artificial environment which the dog did not evolve in. So for your dog
drinking with his meal is unnatural. As I suspect is for humans. So why are
we compelled to do it? I personally have a hard time not drinking with my
meals.

Incidentally, how long after a meal can one drink (what is the average
digestion time)?
