This question was already well answered by David and Bob. What they did
not answer was that PING stands for Packet INternet Groper. Thank you
David and Bob. I plan to use your answers in my networking class.

To test the physical connection to an ip address you use ping ipaddress.
What does ping stand for? Is it part of a particulars et of commands?
