Could anyone tell me just how this list got started?  I searched the oldest
archives and all I could find were some hints:  A May 11, 1997, post from
Todd Moody saying he had posted a message before the list was fully
operational, and a May 12, 1997, post from Grant Magnuson on his second day
as listowner.

I imagine most of the people found the list by doing research on the
Internet.  But where did the idea come from, and who were the first members,
and how did the first members hook up?
