Hello Mel,

I am in the same position. I am trying to reduce fat in
order to race faster. I hve tried various things, and the
only way that seems to work is fasting. I run 75 minutes,
three times a week, but that has no effect on my weight. I
run pretty hard too, not just jogging.

Over the holiday I ate a lot and did not exercise, so I
gained 8 pounds. I lost that in a few days by fasting all
day and eating once a day at dinnertime. I have no willpower
to do low calorie diets, eating three meals a day. If I eat,
I eat a lot. But by limiting myself to one meal a day, it is
easy, there is no (well, not so much;-) trouble with will
power, and I can't eat enough once a day to over eat calories.

My regular diet is very high calorie, I eat lots, and lots
of high calorie, high fat foods like fatty meat and nuts and
seeds. This does not usually make me gain much weight,
because it is mostly paleo foods, and I am pretty active in
addition to my running. But I never lose weight on this diet
either. I now consider that some calorie restriction is
necessary even with a paleo diet. Not as much as if eating
other foods, but some. On my one meal a day plan I eat as
much as I want, but stick to paleo, very low carb foods.
This seems to do it.

By the way, I train low carb, and race low carb too. it
seems to work very well. Even with no food in the morning, I
can run at noon and feel OK. If I want to train hard though,
I eat breakfast, low carb. I ran under 39 minutes for the 10
K this last month, pretty good for 41 years old.
