A family member of mine was biopsy diagnosed with Celiac last spring. She
has been having trouble for the past 16 months with hot flashes, flushness,
periodic nausea, etc. Investigating these symptoms was what sent her to the
GI doc in the first place. The latest in our series of tests was a capsule
endoscopy which showed that her villi is completely cured (thank you
gluten-free diet) but she also has 3 small ulcerated lesions in her small
intestine. There is a possibility that these lesions are caused by
carcinoid tumors (which produce excessive seratonin which would cause the
symptoms) but her GI doc is trying to blame the celiac for these (although
he hasn't been able to marshal any scientific support for this hypothesis).
Hence, I was wondering if anyone has had ulcers in their small intestine
caused by celiac or if anyone has had carcinoid tumors in addition to their
celiac (or if anyone has a brighter idea as to what might be causing the
symptoms).
