Sears recommends a ratio of 40%carb/30%protein/30%fat (Enter the Zone) .

This recommendation is geared towards minimizing excess insulin, promoting
stable blood sugar, and
ensuring adequate glucagon to burn fat from the fat cells as a source of
energy.

Such a diet is rich in fruits and vegetables (most people can't eat as many
as required), and minimizes sweets, starches (potatoes, pasta, rice, bread),
and grains.

Because fat is a concentrated source of energy (9cal/g), a
little bit of monounsaturated fat is added to each meal to slow the
entrance of carbs into the bloodstream (thereby preventing bs and insulin
spikes) and promoting a sense of fullness. At each of three main meals a
day, one would consume as much protein as fits into the palm of one's hand.
The zone also recommends two snacks per day.

Sears admits that The Zone is a caloric-restricted (but not deprivation)
diet.
