First, I apologize to the list for my confusing initial posting. Indeed, my
question regarded recording of audio streaming.

After looking at several of the recommended products, Total recorder appears
as though it will meet my needs.  The price of $11.95 is more than
reasonable. I did notice though that its recorded output files are in wav
format. Which leads me to two questions:  First, aren't other sound file
formats like MP3 far more compact.  And secondly, are there any portable MP3
players which play wav files.

I do find that Total Recorder is amazingly accessible right out of the box,
so to speak.  It's rare to download a product and begin using it within five
minutes.  The 165 page manual is available for download from the site though
it is in PDF format which might be a problem for some. But if you are using
windows 2000 or XP, and download Adobe reader version 7,  you'll find the
PDF format isn't the problem it once was.
