Subject: [CFS-FM-DFW] Pesticides and Neurological Problems

Moderator's note:
PWC - person with CFS / CFIDS
ME - Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
(term used in the UK for a CFS)
GWS - Gulf War Syndrome
*************************************************************

This newly published medical review article is relevant to PWC/ME/GWSs,
given that their symptoms are quite similar to those of patients with
organophosphate exposure, and that related agents are used in chemical
warfare.

Here is a sentence taken from the middle of the paper's abstract: "It is
possible that the most sensitive manifestation of pesticide
neurotoxicity is a general malaise lacking in specificity and related to
mild cognitive dyfunction, simiar to that described for Gulf War
syndrome." They suggest further research, including that of genetic
susceptibility to neurological problems following exposure to
neurotoxins.

It is notable that the authors are affiliated with a government agency,
the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a division of
the [U.S.] National Insitutes of Health, DHHS.

To read the article, you must register with Medscape. Registration is
free and relatively easy and will also provide you with access to a
great deal of medical information. This is a link to the text version.
It is about 20 printed pages in length.
