hi john, i think in certain cercomstances during contests some may use an
external pad closer to computer or a short distance away from rig if
configured in odd way. i got an external tuning knob with my Ten Tec Omni 6
plus but not sure where i'd use it but was thrown in when i got it so have
it just in case i get a wild hair. Dave W4CI
