Howard, I had the r-7 and it worked very well. Just put it together
according to the book or if it's already assembled try it that way. it
already has radials and the co-ax you're talking about will be fine and
length won't matter. The only thing you may have trouble with is being too
close to the metal roof. It does work 20 through 10 meters with pretty good
band width. I was able to use mine on all bands with 1.5 or less swr on most
of the band. Gary

Subject: r5

A friend is giving me his old r5 vertical. We are putting it up Wednesday
when it is supposed to be 55DG. Screw work!
Now, I assume it works on 20-10 meters? How do I tune it for each band?
Does feed line length mater?
What about radials?
How wide should it be on each band?
Can anybody send me the manual?
And finally how well does it usually work?
I will be lashing it to the railing of my tin roof flat porch, ten feet off
the ground.
Oh is lower power 52 ohm coax okay if I am running 200 watts DC or less?
