The West African Research Association presents an interdisciplinary
symposium on "Fieldwork in Africa", in Dakar, Senegal, 12-15 June,
2002.  Papers are invited on all theoretical, scholarly, ethical, and
practical aspects of fieldwork.  Deadlines for proposals is January 21,

FELLOWSHIPS

The West African Research Association is offering two research fellowships
for the summer of 2002 in West Africa.  In addition, WARA is offering
three Summer 2002 Minority Student Internships in West Africa.  For more
information on either award consult their website at

received by January 31, 2002.

The West African Research Center is offering two fellowships, each of which
will support a pair of researchers (one based in a West African institution
an done in a North American institution).  Priority will be given to
scholars who have already initiated collaborative projects.  For more

OTHER

The Division of Continuing Studies of UW-Madison announces a new
scholarship for women over the age of 45: The Alma Baron Second Chance for
Women Scholarship.  It provides $1,000 annually for up to five years.  For
