I have a problem installig Win 98se on a freind of mines machine. The
installation goes well untill the end when the hardware is beeing setup at
around 12min time remaining to compleate the install the screen goes black
for a couple of minutes then I get a BSOD with the message that the disc on
C can not be written on data loss is probible.

I experienced this before, and I think there is a setup.txt in the CD which
will discuss in detail but one reason there was the speed of the PC. They
suggested to use the setup option of "setup /c". This will disable the
win98 installer from using the smartdrv.exe. Smartdrv is for the memory
caching which makes the setup process faster, try to do the setup /c in
MS-DOS prompt. I hope this would help you somehow.
