Dear Listmates,

I recently asked the group if anyone else had expererienced malabsorption of oral drugs and minerals. Here are the responses:

1) try liquid remedies which may be better absorbed

2) might be a bacterial overgrowth-> probiotics may help

3) inceased pain meds were needed before going gf->the pain itself
   stopped after going gf

4) before going gf, some pain meds appeared to pass through esp time
release meds->diabetic drugs were stopped after foing gf as they
lowered the blodd sugar too much->meds work better after going gf

5) med absorption is only about 50%

6) it takes a long time for the gut to heal after going gf

7) Benadryl did not cause drowziness->several drugs just don't work
->don't know if it's poor absorption or they just don't work for in
   my system

8) individual was diagnosed with achlorhydria (low stomach acid)->
now self-injects B12, B6 and Folic Acid->takes Bentain HCL with
Pepsin (acid) and Wobenzyme M (panceratic enzymes) with meals and
   this helps absorption

9) one person is on total parental absorption

10) investigate leaky gut syndrome on the Internet

11) important to determine if birth control pills are being abosrbed->
unplanned pregnancy in a person with low nutrient levels could
    results in birth defects

12) Vitamins are only absorbed 25% anyway (Physician's Desk Reference)

Thankyou very kindly to all who answered my question!

  Sincerely,
  Lisa
