  Does the XP machine show up on the machines running 98?  If so, can you
actually get to it?

  Windows 2000 introduced a new, more secure, protocol for file sharing
(CIFS), which 98 knows nothing about.  2K and XP can speak both protocols
(CIFS and NBT), but the less secure one may not be neabled by default on
XP....
