Are you saying the vendor will not need to start the computer to do repairs?  Have you asked the vendor if it will work on your computer with the the HD/OS removed?  The old Win 95 OS, pre OSR2 does not support FAT32, which is the way your 40gig HD is set up.  It also wouldn't support HD's that big. First thing you'd have to do is find a BIOS update for it, and I would suspect that a machine running a 100 Mhz processor is too old for there to be such a BIOS update.  There probably are some people on this list who could make that work, but if I had a lot of confidential and important business info, I'd back it all up first before I tried it.

Since I need to maintain processing business information on a current basis while awating return of my repaired machine, I need to know, before doing so, if I can temporarily replace my old small hard drive with the HD from my AMD (a WIN98 OS) without any kind of negative consequences. I am a little concerned, especially with the marked difference in BIOS. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and will contribute to reducing my stress level.
