This would be in the setup dialog where it says "Clone MAC"? When I replaced the cable modem AT&T was renting to me with my own after excite@home folded, after numerous calls to tech support someone gave me a special URL for "provisioning" your modem. Except for this URL I could not get on the network prior to "provisioning" my new cable modem. The web site automatically obtains ID info, including the new MAC address. After that I was back on the network. I have never had to clone the MAC or change the MAC address of the SMC 7004ABR router/switchbox. You should, however, after setting up the LAN side and connecting your router to your cable or DSL modem, turn off your modem for 30 seconds and then restart it.
