Hello list,
Do you think of the operating temp of my Athlon 1400 of 52° cent,
with a 35° cent inside the case is OK? Would the addition of a second aux
fan
be worthwile as I understand a temp of nearer 50° is more desireable.
Thanks
James Prettyman
James,
AMD's website says that for a model 4 socket A processor 1400 MHz, the max
die temp is 95 C. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that temp in no way, but
the 52 C you're talking about shouldn't be a problem. I've seen machines
running that processor idle at 55 C and max load at 60 C or better and run
fine. As for adding another fan, why not? In my opinion the more air
circulating, the better. The key word is "circulating"; i.e. x fans in, x
fans out, in at the bottom, out at the top. It might bring your case temp
down. Also, make sure that the wiring in your box isn't a mess and blocking
circulation of air. The best information for this would be at
http://www.amd.com/us and check out their thermal, mechanical, ,and chassis
cooling design guide.
