The Urban League of Greater Madison and Wisconsin Public Television
announce their next documentary and dialogue entitled, "The New
Americans." This film is about three families from three countries, all
with their own hopes and dreams of coming to America which were later
dashed by the reality of what the United States really is and how it
treats those who migrate to her shores as either immigrants or refugees.

The families featured are from Nigeria, Mexico and Palestine. The
Nigerian family, the Ngozi's, are not immigrants but refugees, running
from political persecution. Israel Ngozi and his family have high
aspirations of what the United States is and what it has to offer. But,
when they arrive to Chicago, a city selected for them, not by them, the
Ngozi family learns that the streets are not lined with gold, that the
police are not necessarily friendly, especially to people of color, and
that finding a job that pays enough to live on with the high cost of
living is not easy when you are not a US citizen and not an immigrant
with desired external appearances and ancestryhood.

The documentary and discussion will take place at the Catholic
Multicultural Center, 1862 Beld St., just off of South Park Street near
the Villager Mall. It begins at 7:00Pm with discussions to begin around
8PM and will finish no later than 9:30.

Please come, listen, discuss, share perspectives and enjoy. This is part
of a project called "It's Not Just Black and White: Community
Discussions on Race and Diversity", a project of the Urban League of
Greater Madison and Wisconsin Public Television. This is the second to
the last event of this year. The previous showings have been very
successful. Please join us. Any questions, place email me or call at
251-8550. See you there!
