You might try the file repair part of W98. I don't have my 98 system on
right not but the program is part of the System Information program. SI
is started from Accessories, then System Tools, then SI. On one of the
menus of SI is the program that checks to make sure basic W98 files are
good. I don't know how well it works but I have had it replace a couple
of files for me over the years.
