I own an AMDK6 2+/500 that I have stepped up to 550MHz using the clock
multiplier jumpers on a BCM mobo. I can extract a little more speed out of
the processor by using the 2.0/6.0 jumper setting, but when I do, Windows98SE
fails to load properly. I get an error message right after the POST that a
virtual device driver was either damaged or deleted. When I set the jumpers
back to 5.5, Windows loads. Does Windows remember the hardware configuration
and keep itself from loading if a major change is detected? I run a variety
of music editing programs that are processor intensive and I have noticed an
improvement in overall speed but would like to extract a little more without
having to shell out big $ for a new mobo. Any suggestions?
Chris Ryan
