I read Andrews arguement that there could be nothing wrong with milk as cats
enjoy it without ill effect. My cat loves milk - but it gives her an allergic
reaction. She gets an asthma attack - coughing and wheezing. She is obviously
uncomfortable and it obviously does her no good. But when the fridge door
opens and the cat sees the milk she goes wild with excitement. In short she is
addicted to it. Most poeple and animals crave the things that are not good for
them. Milk is a source of exorphins which makes endorphins and makes you feel
good. It is not neccesarily good for you though.
My cat also loves crisps, especially the salt and vinegar and cheese and onion
flavoured ones full of MSG - a known brain excitotoxin. My sisters dog loves
leftovers scrounged out of peoples dustbins which will make him violently
sick. He is a Labrador. Labradors are known to eat anything and many poison
and kill themselves by scavanging and we have to remain vigilant so he does
himself no harm. Also dogs love chocolate, but chocolate is a known poison for
dogs (especially dark chocolate). I think what I am saying is that just
because animals eat something does not mean that it must be good. In my mind
humans are just animals - but we have the gift of fore thought. We should use
it.
