I noticed an email earlier this week of a parent who was concerned with her
child because he was obese. I've since deleted the message. But I also came
across this information this week. So whoever that was and whoever would
like this info, here it is...

A disheartening link between early growth stunting due to malnutrition and
childhood obesity has emerged. Two physiological changes are involved:

1) To protect inself, a malnourished body establishes a low basal metabolism
rate, stretching its energy resources as far as possible--a change that may
endure after nutrition improves. [after gf diet]

2) Early malnutrition may cause brain structures responsible for appetite
control to be reset at a higher level. Consequently, stunted children are
likely to overeat when food--especially high-fat products--becomes more
widely available [or in celiac children's cases after they go on a gf diet]

Interesting don't you think? All the more reason to make Celiac well known
for the children's (and the rest of us) sake.
