Hi,
I was very interested in the dicussion of IBS and celiac. I was diagnosed
with IBS although my docs believe I have celiac disease. My symptoms were
too scary to do the gluten challenge after the gluten free diet cleared up
everything. I had a gene test done by Dr. Fine's lab hoping that this
would clear things up. I have HLA-DQ1, DQB1*0501, 0604. This doesn't seem
to identify celiac, but I am sure that I can never tolerate gluten. Even a
slight accident can cause me problems for months. I guess I am probably
gluten intolerant and not really celiac and I was wondering what my
diagnosis would have been if I had done a gluten challenge. It would be
nice to have this problem defined since I'm sure that it would kill me or
cause permanent disability if I do not stay on a strict GF diet. I am
really lucky to be alive right now. I worry about others who never find
out.
Susanne
