        6. One family who went to Kauai last summer decided to bring
their own bread and cereal and purchased fresh fruit and vegetables. They
used their condo's BBQ to cook fresh meat and fish.
        7. Shopping - Papaya's Natural Foods and Cafe
        4-831 Kuhio Highway
        Kapa'a, Kauai, HI 96746
        (808)823-0190 voice, (808)823-0756 fax
        Lenard Kritchman - Head Papaya
This store is in the same shopping center as a Safeway, so take
your Safeway food list with you, if you have one.
        8. Restaurants - a) Roy's Poipu Bar and Grill
        2360 Kiahuna Plantation Drive
        Poipu, Kauai, HI 96756
        (808)742-5000 voice, (808)742-5050 fax
Ask for Chris Linn, general manager. Good food and great service.
        2) Terrace Restaurant at the Radisson Kauai
        Food ok, but service poor.
        9. Some foods to look for in restaurants in Hawaii:
        a) lau laus - always GF - meat and fish in taro leaves with sea
salt and sometimes liquid smoke from Wright's and Wright's
        b) lomi lomi salmon - always GF - like salsa with cured salmon and
onions, tomatoes and salt
        c) kalua pork is GF when smoked or cooked in the oven with salt
and liquid smoke, but not GF when the flavoring is soy sauce
        d) Rice - Look for Diamond G brand, as it is not enriched
but only polished with water
The best places for Hawaiian food are at local restaurants where
they cook with fewer ingredients than hotels.
        10. Sally suggests that we e-mail her mother who lives on Kauai.
She is familiar with celiac disease:
