I wrote this a few weeks ago to our group and I was suprised that there
were
no comments about it. It's possible some of you may not have received
this
but I believe it is important for all of us to realize what this group
means
to me and others.

This is a wonderful group that discusses CP and other issues that we
live
with. I am a 43 year old man that has CP but CP is not who I am. I am a
man
that is always searching to improve myself physically, mentally and
spiritually I accept who I am and I accept my limitations. I have many
interests like current events, sports, politics, music and much more

Discussing CP and the challenges we face with our disabilities is very
important but we are people that have many other interest as well. I
believe
if we only discuss issues that concern our disabilities we will become
angry,
bitter and depressed. When people dwell on their problems, most of the
time
they cannot see what others are going through and then they cannot see a
clear way to handle the challenges that all of us face. I hate to sound
corny
but everyone has problems and limitations but people that have a
disability
you may see what they cannot do. I believe we have many capable of doing
many
things and if given the proper opportunity we can show people what they
are

We may have limitations but we must discuss other subjects for a couple
of
reasons. This group gives people a voice where we are heard and everyone
is
important. We show our sensitivity that we care about current events
like the
impending war. There are many times in our lives that some people will
not
listen to our opinions because we may look or sound different. There are
people that are prejudice and they do not care who and what you are. I
believe we cannot ignore people that are prejudice that have closed
minds for
people that are different. We must try to educate people that people
that
have a disability are human beings with goals, dreams, desires, feelings
and
emotions as well as good days and bad days like anyone else.

I believe most people with a disability do not want pity but respect.
There
are many members in this group that are intelligent and use their
creative
writing skills to show we care for each other and society's problems as
well.
